LESSON OVERVIEW : ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN

Global Warming, Human Rights, Poverty, War, Women’s Rights, Gay Rights, PEACE! Throughout history designers have dissented by speaking out and against the injustices and cruelties towards our fellow man and the earth. “Dissent is an essential part of keeping democratic societies healthy, and our ability as citizens to voice our opinion is not only our privilege but our responsibility.”_Milton Glaser

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
The assignment is to develop a different opinion on a current political, economic or cultural cause or issue within the United States today. You will advocate your position through a poster that will identify and assert your opinion to a general or specific audience. Students will research and focus on a specific issue and design a campaign in opposition or support of it addressing the audience to become informed and take some kind of action towards change. Students will design and print their campaign on posters, buttons, stickers and t-shirts and disseminate them to the public while always questionning what the responsibility of a graphic designer is when using words and images to persuade an audience to action.
